Hey everyone!

Just letting you all know I now have an art page on Facebook. I'll be posting all my work there as well and probably some other sketches and scribbles that I wouldn't bother putting on here. ---> www.facebook.com/TheArtOfTashO… <---

I've been working on some new pieces lately that I'm hoping to sell as prints. I'm unsure though whether to make them limited signed copies or just regular prints. What do you guys think?

I have had one of the most awesome weeks of my life!!
First was Adelaide Comic Con (the first ever Oz comic con), which turned out bigger and better than anyone expected. All the overseas  guests kept saying how impressed they were with how it was run and how polite and appreciative all the Aussie fans were. I was lucky enough to be accepted as a volunteer for the event and I'm so glad I applied. It was an incredible experiance and I made so many awesome new friends!
I worked on the autograph and photo booth lines (unfortunately at Oz cons you have to pay for autographs and photos with the movie/TV stars). At first I was freaking out, becuase I'm not very confident or outgoing, and I knew that job would require me to talk to LOTS of people, and talk in a nice, clear, loud voice. I surprised myself though. I didn't get panicky like I usually do in crowds that size, I didn't freeze up and appear to be mute when anyone talked to me, and I didn't even hesitate when I had to get the attention of 100+ people. I felt like a completely different person. I even put my hand up to manage the busiest photo line! (That ended up so long it took over the  space for the next booth, lol.)
As a bonus, I got to stand around and talk to some of the guests while the lines died down. I met Jonathan Frakes (Commander Riker from Star Trek: Next Generation), Jewel Staite (Kaylee from Firefly), Ben Browder (Lt. Colonel Mitchell from Stargate) and Norman Reedus (Daryl from The Walking Dead)!!! There were all so friendly and awesome, but I have to say, meeting Norman was the highlight of my weekend. He's such an awesome guy, and he went out of his way to go talk to people and to go check out their stalls to see their artwork or what they had made to sell there.
I'm definitely volunteering again next year!!

My second piece of :squee: worthy news this week is about Mike's book! We recieved the first copy ever printed in the mail! It looks AWESOME!! It's a little bigger than we thought it would be, but it makes it look more striking. The pages are made from such nice silky soft paper too. It is very exciting to hold it in our hands! Everything looked great and we've checked it for mistakes (and found none) so Mike's signed off on it and it will now be printed and shipped off to people/online stores. I am so very proud of him! I think I may have to upload a picture.

Also, I should have some new work to show you guys soon! :D Getting ready for my daughters birthday party has kinda eatten into my art time lately. When I print all the stuff off and set it up for the party I'll get a photo to show you all that too. ;)

Ramblings of beauty and the world as I saw it to

Journal Entry: Wed Feb 22, 2012, 5:09 AM

Today was a wonderful day.

For the first time, in a very very long time, I managed to venture out into a crowded public space by MYSELF and not be reduced to a panicing mess! It felt fantastic!

After I attended to my erands (and bought comics) I took my time walking through the city mall. I stopped to listen to buskers who played beautiful music, and watched a street performer who did some pretty cool tricks. When I got the end of the mall, I walked down the next street over where the library, museum, art galery and city university campus are. I sat infront of those gorgeous old buildings, soaked in the beautiful surroundings of their fountans and gardens in the warm sunlight, and then I went into the art gallery.
Now, the art gallery here in Adelaide is certainly not among the worlds best, but it is one of my all time favorite places. I remember being little and going there on the weekends with my mum. It is more than likely the place that sparked my love for art. Beautiful paintings and sculptures fill its rooms, from portraits that are centuries old, to modern art, and evern brand new pieces (although I personally don't like most modern art, I can appreciate it's role in art history, and the rooms dedicated to it also).
Walking through there today I felt like a child again. Drawn in and captivated by the colours and blush strokes of every painting. By the contrasting smooth and rough textures on the sculptures. By the passion and work that went into creating every single piece. Then I got to show that to my children. my family met me in town and we walked though the art gallery together. I saw my girls gasp and run to pieces that I remembered loving as a child. Their little faces lit up every time they walked into a new room. It was wonderful.
I do hope they will grow to have the same appreciation for these works as I do. That they will look for and appreciate the natural beauty in world. There is so much of it, and it makes me sad that most people are too busy to look these days.
I have to admit, because of my slight fear of crowded places, I don't often get to go and look at it myself.
But today I did, and it felt wonderful.
Today everything around me seemed more beautiful than usual.
Even I felt beautiful.

Today was a truly beautiful day.

:bulletblack: :skull: Commissions are open, but they may take a little while as I need to slot them in between working on pages and being a full time mum :) :skull: :bulletblack:

Commission update

Journal Entry: Wed Feb 1, 2012, 8:51 PM

ok, I've changed my mind. Commissions are open again! While the pages for the comic I'm working on are my #1 priority, I'm not really in the position at the moment to turn down any paid commission offers. Fatsmas (xmas), birthdays and our cat getting sick have been eatting into our savings and taking a few commissions could help out a bit :)
I will say though, since I have a busy schedule, they might take a little while.

Happy new Year and.. stuff..

Journal Entry: Tue Jan 17, 2012, 3:02 AM

Hallo! Wie ghet es dir? (yes, I've started German lessons :D I actually started last year, but life got hectic and they got lost in the sea of "I'll get back to that next week" tasks that were put off for a 3 month long week.)

Anywho, how was everyones Holiday season? Hope you all had a wonderfull time with the people who are special to you and that you're not all suffering from the horrible after effects of what my family has come to know as "Fatsmas".

I was hoping to figure out how to make skins before I posted again, but I have neither the time, nor the attention span, to sit and figure out how to do it. Hopefully I'll get it eventually though, hehe.

Now, if by any chance one of the many skilled colourists out there should see this post and have some time to spare, could I possibly ask for some of your afore mentioned time to get some constructive critisism on my latest piece?

Satyress Coloured by TashOToole

I tried to have her lit up from behind by the sun, but despite my best efforts to pick vibrant colours, they seem to have come out rather bland and pastel-like. There's not as much contrast as I would like but I'm not sure if darkening the colours would ruin it or not. I have a lot to learn about colouring and any help and hits are welcome!

In other awesome news..
My partner has reached the 100 pre-sales for his first book! :woot: So now it goes to print and there's one final check before everyone get's sent their copies and it hits Amazon and bookstores in America! I'm so very excited and proud of him! You can check it out and even pre-order it still at the site below! (I'm also gonna spam the blurb again :giggle: )

Tangent by Mike Pomery

About the Book:
Alan Febras has just discarded immortality itself.

In an era of stifling Utopia; Alan is given the opportunity to go back into his own past and thwart the mandatory continuation of his dreary life. In an uncharacteristic show of decisiveness, Alan chooses to forsake the prospect of eternal life and escape into the hedonism of his past. The beauty of our present day blooms under Alan's renewed observance, yet not everything is as it appears to be. Strange dreams plague him, and the new path he has chosen is fraught with danger and uncertainty.

If he is not careful, Alan's newfound flippancy may bring his second shot at life to a rather abrupt end… And from the back of his mind comes the question:
Was it worth it?

I'm closed for commissions for the moment.
I have a couple I'm still working on, but I wont have time to take on any new ones while I'm working on comic pages. These pages are my babies and they need all my free (art) time. Hopefully after the first issue is penciled and I'm about half way into issue 2 I can open commissions again :)

Super exciting news!! :D

My Mr. ( MikePomery ) is getting his first book published!! :squee: I'm so excited! He's a great writer and the book is fantastic! (Most people assume I'm just saying that because he's my Mr and I "have to". But seriously, I'm not a fan of reading. I have a very short attention span and I loose interest in books very quickly. I got to read Mike's book chapter by chapter as he wrote it and I was glued to the computer monitor every time and itching to read more! I really enjoyed reading it!)
If you enjoy reading books that make you think instead of handing you a boring and predictable ending on a silver platter, I definitely reccomend reading this one!

His book is in pre-sales stage at the moment and the link below is the site where you can order it. It's only $14.97 + postage!! Once 100 pre-sales have been made the book will be printed and sent off to everyone (provided they've finished editing and makeing the cover and stuff ;) )

If anyone feels like helping to spead the word around it would be very muchly appreciated and I'd love you forever!!

Woot! Woot!

Journal Entry: Wed Sep 28, 2011, 5:56 PM

Hi guys and galls!! How are you all?
I'm in a pretty damn good mood today :) got some awesome news to share!
Firstly though, I have to thank the incredibly talented and super sweet :iconartyamg: for surprising me this morning with a DA subscription! Thank you so much! :D you made my day!! I'll have to figure out how to make myself a journal skin of my own, but untill i have time, this one will do. :)

I recently finished a pin up commission for a comic being created by :iconnasstudiosllc: They had a nice little feature on www.worldofsuperheroes.com and my picture was picked as one of the few images to use in the feature!! I'm pretty damn happy! Check it out here! www.worldofsuperheroes.com/com…

Now for big exciting news!!
Last year my partner :iconmikepomery: wrote a book and he's spent most of this year sending it off to agents and publishers. It's an awesome story and it has one of those endings that makes you think. it doesn't just say blah blah such and such happed that's how it went the end. I'm NOT a big fan of reading, but I completely zoned out and couldn't stop reading it! Heaps of people, from all kinds of backgrounds and educational levels have read it and told him that they loved it! Although he's the type of person who thinks people say they like your stuff because they're face to face with you and think they have to, not because they actually mean it.
So last night, I'm in bed asleep, and he wakes me up.. he had just gotten an email from a publishing company saying they're accepting his book!! My love is going to be a published author!! I'm so excited for him!! :boogie: They're going to design the cover for him, make him his own website and then we just need to pre-sell 100 copies before they start printing. I'm gonna spam his page everywhere!! lol
Oooh, and I can't wait till he starts writing his next story! He's already planning it in his head and the bits he's told me sound great!
He really is a very talented writer!

Does anyone else have some good news they want to share?

Mir geht es gut! coz I've been drawing a lot lately :boogie:
I found an abandoned scribble from Feb and had a sudden idea on how to improve it, so I've been doing that the last few days. I finished turning it into lines, and was about to upload it, then realized some bits were lacking. I really need to work on adding better details. It was pretty damn plain and everything was rather flat looking. :bored: (as are most of my pictures unfortunately :shakefist:) So I'm attempting to improve on the little things  Hopefully I'll have that up soon (I probably would have had it done by now if I didn't have kids to tend to and family outings coming out my ears!)
I've got ideas for a couple of cool pics too that I hope to do very soon, as well as doing lines for the designs I've been scetching for the other card suits :w00t:

I've been an idiot lately. I keep putting off colouring my work because I find it hard, which is very slack of me. Since I keep doing this, my colouring skills seem to be getting worse and worse every time I try, and I keep thinking "nahh..not today.. I'll try again tomorrow or something". I really shouldn't be doing that. (I have 8 pictures collecting digital dust atm because they need colouring) So I've decided I need to put on my big girl pants and get stuck into it!! I'm not going to get better at it if I never do it!!
I have a feeling the next few coloured pieces I do won't be very good though, hahaha. Just warning you ;)

well.. as far as my art is concerned at the moment anyway. Or maybe just my right hand..

Anyway, I'm working on a tattoo design that my mum has asked me to do for her, and I seem to be having trouble with silly little things. Hands, feet, hair and the damn angel wing!! I've been workin on that wing for the past 3 days and I feel like I'll probably be stuck on it for the next 3 months!! Of course, it doesn't help having kids to look after, and all the general day to day things that keep us stay-at-home parents busy. I'm reaching the point where I'm just becoming frustrated with the whole piece rather than being happy to be taking my time getting it right.
There are quite a few other ideas and pictures (that I've already started) I'd rather be working on, but if I do those first I'll get the "but I'm still waiting for MY picture" thing from mum. We don't want that.

and on a non-whingy note.. Thank you for all the birthday notes/FB posts I got :) I had a lovely day of doing absolutely nothing :D

Hi there :)
Just a quick little update. I haven't been around much the last couple of years (kids take up a hell of a lot of time, ya know ;) ) But I'm workin my butt off, getting my skills back and trying some new styles and techniques. I'm determined to improve, and keep improving! I'm having a lot of fun with it too. :) It's been a long time since I've enjoyed doing art this much. I could certainly get used to this ;)
I hope my watchers like my new stuff as much (or more) as my old.

Hi all,

It's been a while since I've posted. The kids are keeping me quite busy. Ami just turned 2 in April and Jade is now 7 months.

I've had a little time to sketch lately though and I've added a few to my scraps. This year for my birthday Mike got me a light box! :D So I'll finaly be able to ink my sketches in the comfort of our house rather than going out in the cold to sit at our glass outdoor setting with a lamp under the table, lol.
yay!

Well, first off. Mike and I are now the proud parents of two beautiful girls. Our second daughter, Jade Rose, was born on the 1st of October (1 week early) by c-section. Weighing 8 pound 1 (3640 grams) and measured 50cm long. She's a gorgeous little girl. Full head of black hair and big dark blue eyes. Amielle loves her and is already such a fantastic big sister :)
I might actually upload a nice picture of our girls later.

Surprisingly, Yesterday and today I have actually found time to draw! I thought it would have taken much longer before I could find time to draw with two kids to run around after. Amielle is staying at her granny's place tonight, so I still have a bit more time to myself (while little Jade is sleeping of course).
I've uploaded a few pics today. Hopefully I'll have some more soon.

Tash
xoxo

  • Listening to: nothing... how wonderfull silence is sometimes..
  • Drinking: Coke-a-cola..Ahh
I've noticed that the last few pictures I've uploaded are crap :S Looking back on them I'm not happy at all, but, I've started sketching again and I am happy with how the anatomy is turning out. Unfortunately I have the urge to draw, I just don't have any inspiration :( very frustrating. But I shall keep trying.
I uploaded one particular scribble i liked to my scraps. ladydrucilla.deviantart.com/ar… I just don't know what to do with it :S

On a completely different note, we have about 5 weeks till bub #2 joins us out here in the world. (Oh, and we found out at the 20 week scan that it's another girl) :D
We're very excited!! but at the same time a bit scared since we almost lost our first baby during delivery. This time though, they've classed us as high-risk, so they'll be keeping a close eye on us to make sure there's no repeat of last time. I wonder how much time I'll actually have to sketch once we have 2 kids :S lol.. I wont be holding my breath for it that's for sure.

I finaly finished a drawing today. I've been meaning to draw something for months and i've only just got the inspiration to do it. Was a bit hard to do the pen version since i still havn't got a light table yet. lol. I've been using an empty old A4 photo frame standing up against a tripod with a lamp behind it. It's quite hard to work on that angle :S. But it felt good to get into it again, no matter how rusty i am ;)

My partner and i got some good news not long ago. we're having another baby! :D I'm about 14 weeks now. which means we got pregnant the week we started trying, lol. we thought it would take a bit longer, but we're happy. Amielle turns one this month. She'll be 18 months when her little brother/sister is born.
My how time goes by so quickly.

i cant believe it's been so long since i posted. Amielle was born on the 30th April, about 3 1/2 onth ago, lol (she had to be induced, was a long and complicated birth. ick!!)

anywho, i dont have much time, so this entry will be short.

i've found a few minutes every now and them between feeding bub, changing nappies, playing peek-a-boo, and of course while bub naps, to sketch. It'd not much atm, but hopefull i'll find time to improve it. lol. i've uploaded a photo of it to show you all (oh how i would love a scanner) any comments and ideas on how to improve it would be muchly appreciated.

Hopefully i'll find tim to post again in a few days and give you a propper update.

We're having a girl!!! :D YAY! we had our 20 week ultrashound a couple of weeks ago and got a clear picture of bubs sex.. it's a girl! she's gorgeous and healthy and she loves to kick me allllllll the time :S lol (mike can feel her kick now too :D yay!)
We also started antinatal classes. They suck :S

I've had a little time to draw lately too :S which is kinda amazing that i both had the time, and felt like it. I started a picture i promised to do for my cousin a few years ago. (yes, yes, i'm aware, i'm very slack when it comes to doing my art :S) I'm happy with how it's looking so far, although i stuffed up majourly with some of the inking. So i'll have to redo some of it i think :S
I'm just happy that i'm starting to get urges to draw again, for so long i really havn't felt like it and i was getting worried that i'd forget how to :O
